Butler Places Six On All-Horizon League Men’s Soccer Team

Seniors Frank Patano and Eduardo Garcia earn first team all-league recognition

Six members of the Butler men’s soccer team, including senior standouts Frank Patano and Eduardo Garcia, have been named to the 2008 Horizon League Men’s Soccer All-League Team. The honor squad, selected by league coaches, was released by the Horizon League office on Thursday, Nov. 6.

Patano, who leads the league in goals and points, and Garcia, who tops the league in assists, both were named first team all-league forwards. Both were second team all-league picks a year ago. Patano has 12 goals and two assists (26 points) on the season, while Garcia has tallied three goals and a school-record 13 assists (19 points). The two helped Butler post the league’s only unbeaten conference record.

Also honored from Butler were juniors Boris Gatzky and Nick Hegeman, sophomore Kyle Pateros and freshman Matt Hedges. Gatzky, who has four goals and six assists (14 points) on the season, was named a second team forward, Hegeman, who owns seven shutouts and a 0.75 goals against average, was tabbed as the second team goalkeeper, and Pateros, who boasts six goals and two assists (14 points), was selected as a second team midfielder. Hedges, who has helped Butler’s defense limit opponents to just 15 goals this season, was chosen as a defender on the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team. Gatzky was named second team all-league and was picked to the league all-newcomer team a year ago, while Pateros was chosen to the 2007 all-newcomer squad.

The Bulldogs captured the No. 2 seed in the 2008 Horizon League Men’s Soccer Championship.
